Mumbai: After razing the 104 centuries’ old Patripul, the central railway (CR) plans to raze another old foot-over bridge (FoB) located at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) end of Masjid Bunder station. According to CR officials, the FoB is narrow and they want to increase its width which is why the decision has been taken to raze it.

A meeting of CR officials was held Wednesday at the division railway manager office over the number of footfalls having increased and the FoB being too narrow to handle the same.

Sunil Udasi, Chief public relations officer (CPRO), CR, said that a preliminary meeting had been held to raze an old narrow FoB at Masjid Bunder, and that a new, wide FoB would come up at the same place to ease congestion at the railway station.

Masjid Bunder serves as both central railway and harbour station and sees high footfalls from across the city as wholesale markets are situated there. Sources said that a mega block would be planned to dismantle the FOB within a fortnight. Suburban services and outstation services originating from CSMT would be affected on all six lines during the block period. The new FOB was likely to be constructed before the monsoon of 2019.
