Workshop to update voters' list
As part of the summary revision of electoral rolls, more than 28 lakh new voters have been added to the voter list in the state.
MUMBAI: Those who have failed to enrol themselves as voters will get another opportunity in the form of a special workshop to be held on February 23 and 24 where citizens can go to their polling booths. Election officials will be present with forms to add or delete names from the voter list.
According to a statement by the State Electoral Office of Election Commission of India, the election officials will be present at all polling booths across districts on February 23 and 24. The Booth Level Officer (BLO) will accept application forms from the citizens. The BLOs will have all the forms for voter enrolment, name addition and deletion.
An official of the state election office said, “The citizens can also use the two days to ensure that their names figure in the voter list.”
As part of the summary revision of electoral rolls, more than 28 lakh new voters have been added to the voter list in the state.
According to the revised list, which was published on January 31, 2019, 729,335 names have been deleted, while 3,568,352 voters have been added. Hence, the total addition to the voter list is 2,839,017. Of the 28.39 lakh new voters, close to 11.9 lakh are in the age group of 18 to 19 years.
The official said that now the total number of eligible voters for Lok Sabha elections in the state is 87,330,384. The total number of voters in 2014 Lok Sabha elections was 8.07 crore. It means that 64 lakh voters have increased in the last five years.
