Man with brain tumour rejected

Mumbai: Santacruz’s Madhav Kale (62), recently diagnosed with a second-stage brain tumour visited civic-run Nair Hospital twice only to be shooed away by staffers here saying doctors were on leave on both occasions.
Mr Kale is a retired gardener whose expenses are borne by his married daughter. Mr Kale told The Asian Age, “I was diagnosed with a second-stage brain tumour in mid-February.
When I contacted my daughter’s boss who is a general practitioner, he suggested I take specialised treatment from a hospital. Since I am a retired man, and cannot ford expensive treatment at a private hospital, he suggested that I go to Nair Hospital in Tardeo as he has a contact there.”
“When I went to Nair Hospital on Monday, I saw many doctors standing outside the hospital, raising slogans.
When I went to see the doctor, they asked me to come back the next day i.e. Tuesday as there was no doctor to attend to me. But the same thing happened with me when I went to the hospital on Tuesday. This time, the medical staff was all the more harsh. I would have gone to a private hospital if I could afford it,” he ented.
