Mumbai: There was a ruckus in the legislative council on Thursday after parliament affair minister Girish Bapat said that that yoga guru Baba Ramdev was a ‘Rashatrapurush’.

It invited the ire of the Congress, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and other opposition members, who said it was an insult to national leaders.

The house was adjourned due to the ruckus for some time. Mr Bapat later apologised for the remark.

Congress MLA Sanjay Dutt objected to the government decision to allot land for Ramdev's company, Patanjali’s project in Mihan (Multi-modal international hub airport at Nagpur) and for permission to sell his products at ‘Aaple Sarkar Seva Kendra.’

He claimed the government was favouring Ramdev and alleged that he was treated as 'sarkari baba.’ He said that Ramdev had been allotted land in the Mihan project at throwaway prices.

He demanded that the government withdraw the order of selling only Patanjali products through Aaple Sarkar Seva Kendras.’
