Proven Rahul Gandhi is liar, says Prakash Javadekar
Mr Gandhi said that he had made the rhetorical statement†relying on social media reports.
Mumbai: After Congress president Rahul Gandhi regretted his comments on Rafale attributed to the Supreme Court (SC), the BJP leader Prakash Javadekar on Monday said that it was now proven that the Congress president had been spreading lies about the Rafale aircraft deal.
In the press conference in Mumbai, Javadekar said, “The issue of contempt of court was in the court and the court had given time till Monday for Mr Gandhi to respond. On Monday, he had apologised in front of the apex court and agreed that he told a lie. The Congress means jhoot, and Rafale means Rahul fail. They are speaking lies; one lie ends, the other starts, they are losing respect in front of the people. Whatever respect they had before, they are losing it.”
Whereas, in response to a contempt petition filed against Mr Gandhi in the SC, Mr Gandhi said that the statement was made in the heat of the political campaign and his opponents misused the remarks.
“My statement was made in the heat of political campaigning... my political opponents wrongly projected that I had deliberately and intentionally suggested that the SC said ‘Chowkidar Chor hai’. Nothing could be farther from my mind,” Mr Gandhi said.
In his affidavit, Mr Gandhi said that the remarks against Modi were made during the political campaign when he had not seen or read the SC order of April 10.
He added that there was not the slightest intention to insinuate anything regarding the court proceedings. Mr Gandhi further said that he had made the “rhetorical statement” relying on electronic and social media reportage and the version of workers and activists surrounding him.
The BJP leader and sitting Lok Sabha MP from the New Delhi constituency, Meenakshi Lekhi, had moved the apex court, alleging that Mr Gandhi attributed his personal remarks to the top court and tried to create prejudice.
