Digital lockers are introduced for ICSE students
The students of 2016-17 ICSE batch of Class 10 and Class 12 will benefit from the initiative of the ICSE.
Mumbai: The Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) board has introduced personalised DigiLocker accounts in which students can store their important documents and access them whenever needed with the help of their Aadhaar numbers.
The move will allow students of the ICSE to safeguard their educational certificates and important documents and stop worrying about preserving hard copies of their marks sheets, passing out and migration certificates. The initiative will benefit students of 2016-17 batch of class 10 and 12.
The initiative is however not new for University of Mumbai (UM) students who have benefited from this feature since last year.
According to a source in the ICSE, the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) joined hands with the Department of Electronics and Information Technology to protect and upload academic certificates of students on the DigiLocker cloud platform, a service launched by the central government in 2014.
“All data related to students will be available on DigiLocker with the digital signature of the issuing authority,” said the source.
Mr Gerry Arathoon, Chief Executive and Secretary, CISCE, said that apart from the DigiLocker facility, the students will also be given hard copies of their certificates.
The UM had introduced the DigiLocker initiative in 2016 on a pilot basis with a view to help students preserve their certificates, mark sheets and other documents that they may require while applying for a job or a course in a foreign institution.
The motive being that original copies of the documents were required to be submitted at multiple places and submitting the hard copies would not be possible at all
times.
