Alert RPF men apprehend bag lifter

Mumbai: Alert police personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) used their wits to apprehend a bag lifter who targeted passengers travelling in mail and express trains that run through the city.

After spotting a man carrying a ladies’ handbag on platform number six, the Vasai based RPF cops, PSI Kanhaiya Singh and the constable- Santosh Gurjar stopped the suspect at 11.20 pm on Monday. The bag belonged to a nurse and contained cash and jewellery worth Rs 1.82 lakh.

When questioned what he was doing with a woman’s purse, the crook who identified himself as Faheem Khan Amanuulah Khan (39) began fumbling while he cooked up a story. The police found cash and gold ornaments totaling Rs 1.82 lakh in the bag.
