Bombay HC asks Mumbai University to answer result mess

Mumbai: The Bombay high court has directed Mumbai University (MU) to submit a detailed affidavit over the four-month delay in the declaration of final year exam results. The Bombay high court said, “Adopting a new technology is not wrong but people must be trained in advance.” The court kept the matter for hearing after two weeks.

A division bench of Justice Anup Mohata and Justice B.H. Dangre was hearing a bunch of petitions over the inordinate delay in declaration of results of almost all major examinations conduct by the Mumbai University. One of the petitions was filed by city resident Sudyumna Nargolkar, who had sought expeditious declaration of results of BA, B.com and Bsc course as due to the result mess admissions for the three-year LLB course were being delayed.

On Friday, university counsel Rui Rodrigues informed the court that “all 477 results have been declared”. The court also permitted competent authority of state Common Entrance Test (CET) law department to conduct CET exams for three year LLB course, which were earlier, stayed. Further, the court told the MU that “using new technology (while checking papers) is not wrong but you must trained staff well in advance. Some times staff takes much time to adopt new technology, if you directly start using new technology then this kind of mess takes place”.

The high court asked the MU to file affidavit, saying it should contains the reasons behind delay in declaration of results and implementation of online screen marking system to assess answersheets. Meanwhile, a student (who did not wished to be named) has approach the court and alleged that he was marked absent despite attending examination of five-year LLB course.
