Mumbai: The state-run J.J. Hospital will soon have a skills laboratory to enable MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) students develop their innovative skills, thinking and imagination, which in turn will have a beneficial impact on the healthcare industry.
Called the “Medical innovative creative and entrepreneurship lab”, “Work on this project is underway and it will be a public-private partnership (PPP),” said a J.J. official.
“J.J. will be the first hospital in the state to have such a ‘skills lab’,” he said.
Dr Mukund Tayade, dean, J.J. Hospital, said, “With growing innovative technologies, our students should update their knowledge with skills. On a daily basis, we are witnessing the development of new technology worldwide.”
“With this lab, we are trying to promote our students to think creatively,” he said. Associate professor of the microbiology department, Dr Sarala Menon, said that this is the change that medical students need.
“This lab will help boost their innovative skills, thinking and imagination ability. Students who desire to work here can come and test their abilities. We have appointed more than six students as brand ambassadors so that more students are drawn towards this,” she said. It will not affect students’ academic performance, she added.
