'Padmaavat' is based on the epic poem Padmavat written by Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi.

Mumbai: The advance online booking for the Bollywood movie , which is scheduled to be released on Thursday amid protests from Rajput organisations, has begun. However, the tickets haven’t been booked in large numbers which may indicate that the moviegoers in the city are in dilemma on whether to step out to watch the movie.

The movie is not faring well in its advanced booking stage. Manoj Desai, a manager of  Maratha Mandir, said, “We are hoping that till Wednesday people would book tickets, but for now we haven’t got a good response.”

Raj Thackeray-led MaharashtraNavnirman Sena (MNS) on Tuesday supported the release of Bollywood film Padmaavat whose screening has been opposed by Rajput groups in the states.

The MNS said the protesters should respect the decision of the Supreme Court which has cleared the decks for the release of the 13th Century period drama, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

MNS’ film wing’s working president Shalini Thackeray said they would not let anybody prohibit the release of the movie in the Mumbai region.

Despite the apex court upholding the freedom of expression in its order to stay the notifications issued by a couple of state governments banning the movie, fringe Rajput groups are still opposing its release.
