Mumbai: Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan on Tuesday tweeted an old video of women trying to enter the coach of a suburban local train. The tweet just said, “goodness..!!! “, for a video that showed women almost trampling each other while attempting to enter the coach. The video was circulated around a year and a half ago and had gone viral on social media, although the video is old many women activist have said that this is exactly why they have been asking for more number of woman coaches and also demanding for more special services.
Activist Lata Argade said, “This is an old video but the situation today is the same, the formula of allotting three out of 12 second class to women is outdated, today the women workforce is almost at par with men and railways needs to rethink this old system of limited coaches for women.”
Other women commuters like Anita Chitale who have been squeezing in the first class fare monthly from their salaries said that the pass is rendered almost useless due to the fact that there are only two first-class coaches. “Women coaches are extremely overcrowded and first class is half a normal coach and so there is very limited options for woman and the railways has not done anything about it,” she added.
Sources have said that the video was shot a long time ago on the WR station of Borivali during the morning peak-hours. The official said, “Morning peak hours are the worse because people have to get to the office within a certain time limit, there is an urgency. In the evening they might leave say two-three trains because commuter have to get back home.”
WR chief public relations officer Ravindra Bhakar said, “We have no way of authenticating the video but this is an old one, we have very little information on this right now.”
