MBMC starts fresh hunt for land

Mumbai: Opposition from the locals and a rap from the judiciary had compelled the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) to make alternate arrangements for shifting its solid waste management plant from Dhavgi village in Uttan. Subsequently, the civic administration not only zeroed in on a plot in Sakwar village near Vasai but had also unveiled its ambitious plans to set up a waste-to-energy process plant. However, the land allotment has been rejected by the district collector owing to a resolution adopted by the Sakwar Gram Panchayat opposing the set-up of any waste management plant or a dumping yard in their jurisdiction.

B.G. Pawar, civic chief, confirmed this while he was interacting with a delegation from Uttan comprising members of local social organisation’s and heads of fishing societies including- Leo Collaso, Sharmila Bagaji, Helen Georgy, Haryl Borges, Renold Bechari. The Bet Jan Akrosh Morcha have threatened to restrict entryof garbage trucks to the dump yard in Dhaavgi from May 1.
