Mumbai: The additional chief metropolitan court has rejected the application of Kishore Mehta, main trustee of Lilavati Hospital who sought blanket permission for a year to travel abroad for attending business meetings and for medical treatment. The court while rejecting the permission which was also opposed by the banking security and fraud cell of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sought to know why Mehta wanted to go abroad for medical treatment when the same were available in Lilavati Hospital.

Mehta who is being investigated by the CBI for his role in a case registered against him in 2009, submitted an application seeking permission to travel to the UK, Europe, USA, UAE, Schengen Countries, Hong Kong and Switzerland for business and medical treatment.

However, the CBI opposed the application citing a previous instance where he had gone abroad after being permitted by the court without complying with the conditions of executing undertaking before the court.

The HC said that Mehta had not provided any travel itinerary and had sought blanket permission for a year from the date of the order. It also said that considering that Mehta had not appeared in a previous hearing due to medical problems how could he undertake a journey for business in that condition.
