Thane police confiscates 11 trucks transporting illegal sand

During verification, police found that truck drivers did not not posses valid permits for carrying sand.

The Thane police has made arrangements to segregate heavy vehicles from the route on which the farmers will ply to reach Mumbai.

Thane: The rural police cracked down on illegal sand transportation on the Ghodbunder Road in the district, an official said on May 24.

Following complaints, the police carried out checks and intercepted the sand-laden trucks near a hotel on the Ghodbunder Road on May 23, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Thane rural) Atul Kulkarni said.

During verification, the police found that the truck drivers did not not posses valid permits for carrying the sand.

The police confiscated 11 trucks along with the sand and booked their drivers and owners under IPC sections pertaining to theft and relevant provisions of the Maharashtra Land Revenue Code, the official said.
