Mumbai: Further investigation into the murder of the elderly Makhijani couple from Khar has revealed that the male accused, Singhasan Mukutekka (26), who is from Sundargarh district in Orissa, had allegedly kidnapped, impregnated and murdered one Preeti Bahla (17) more than a year ago.

Singhasan is suspected to have pushed the two months’ pregnant Preeti from a tractor, leading to her death. However, as no one actually caught him in the act, he was let out on bail, which is when he met his current girlfriend and mastermind of the Makh-ijanis’ murder, Parvati Khaka (20), at a wedding in Orissa.

Anil Kumbhare, deputy commissioner of police zone 8, who holds additional charge of zone 9, said, “Enquiries into the background of the two accused – Singhasan and Parvati – made with the Orissa police showed that Singhasan, a native of a tribal village in Orissa, was selected as a policeman in 2016, following which he started taking undue advantage of his position.”

“A few months later, he abducted Preeti from Behlipada, raped her, and forced her into staying with him. While they were together, Singhasan allegedly impregnated Preeti and the later began forcing him to marry her. As Singhasan was not keen on getting hitched, he hatched a plot to kill Preeti. When she was two months pregnant, he allegedly pushed her from a tractor, leading to her death on the spot,” Kumbhare said.

He said that the Orissa police was yet to send across reports after which they would take necessary action against the accused.

On Friday, the Khar police arrested Parvati and Singhasan for murdering and robbing Nanak Makhijani (85) and his wife Daya (84). The duo has been booked for murder and robbery.
