Three killed, 2 hurt after bakery chimney collapses
The police think that the incident took place at 10.30 pm on Saturday night, when the chimney of a single-storey structure fell.
Mumbai: Three workers were killed and two others were injured when the chimney of the Aqsa Bakery located in Jogeshwari fell on them, after caving in, late Saturday night. The workers both worked and stayed at the bakery. According to police sources, the labourers were having their dinner when the incident took place. The Oshiwara police have registered a case of Accidental Death Report (ADR).
The police think that the incident took place at 10.30 pm on Saturday night, when the chimney of a single-storey structure fell, while the deceased and the injured men were having dinner. After the incident, the locals immediately informed the officials of the fire brigade and the police, who reached the spot in minutes and extricated the five labourers from the debris and rushed them to a local hospital. Three out of five labourers were declared dead before admission, while three are being treated for injuries sustained in the accident. The deceased have been identified as Jeetendra Harichand (26), Kishmat Ali (24) and Teeji Bhargav (22).
Subhash Khanvilkar, senior police inspector of Oshiwara police station said, “We have currently registered a case of Accidental Death Report (ADR) but are also probing the case with an angle of negligence. As we speak, our team is taking the opinion of experts to know whether the mishap took place due to a natural calamity (rain) or negligence on part of the owner, based on which we will take further action.”
The Oshiwara police are questioning the owner of the bakery to see if proper steps were taken to ensure the safety of the labourers working and staying in the bakery.
