Mumbai: The Mumbai crime branch has arrested two persons who allegedly plotted and killed a Right To Information (RTI) activist, who had complained against the illegal sale of toddy. The accused duo are ‘taadi-maadi’ sellers who were allegedly adversely affected by the incessant complaining of the deceased.

The investigators said that the accused, Rajeshwari Ellimati (46) and Rajeshwar Kasarppu (51), killed Podeti Narsa Goud (51), a resident of Hyderabad on May 9 in Telangana. The officials said that the attackers are from Karim Nagar in Hyderabad. “Three people were wanted in the case, which was registered by Telangana police. We received information that among them, two had been staying in Mumbai using forged identities and changing their locations constantly,” said a crime branch officer.

The police picked up Ellimati and Kasarppu from Kher Nagar in Bandra and Anand Nagar in Jogeshwari. They had been in hiding in Mumbai ever since Gaud was murdered, police said.

They have been handed over to the Telangana police for further investigation as the case is registered with the Dharmapuri police station there.

Goud was reportedly shot dead by unidentified persons in Dharmapuri town in Jagtial district of Telangana on May 9. He was based in Mumbai but originally hailed from Dharmapuri.

Goud had filed several RTI petitions with the excise department of Maharashtra seeking information about illicit sale of toddy in  Mumbai.
