Ganesha can be viewed as a symbol of the divine energy that helps us overcome obstacles in our journey to growth.

Mumbai: With just a day left for Ganesh Chaturthi, the city is abuzz with preparations to welcome its favourite deity. So much so, idols of the elephant god and decorative knick-knacks are occupying areas reserved for pedestrians with BMC neglecting to take any action to vacate footpaths.

Residents of areas such as Bhavani Shankar Road, near Kabutarkhana, Dadar west, are facing a nightmare navigating roads. Sunita Jain (50), a resident of the area, told The Asian Age, “People from Pen-Panvel have been here to sell Lord Ganesh idols. They have blocked entire footpaths since the past more than five days. Why has the BMC failed to take action against them? If any medical emergency crops up, how will an ambulance find its way here and who will be responsible!”

Dadar west is one of the main centres for devotees to buy lanterns and lighting arrangement, decorative material, sweets and last but not the least, Lord Ganesh idols. Hawkers peddling these wares have occupied the space meant for pedestrians almost entirely.
