Shiv Sena suggests Kanjurmarg for metro shed

Mumbai: Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray on Friday suggested Kanjurmarg as an alternative site for the Metro 3 carshed.
“If we can save the city’s forest cover, we must try it. If we have another option at Kanjurmarg, we must use it to avoid destroying Mumbai’s green belt,” Mr Thackeray said during a press conference in Mumbai.
It is to be noted that the Sena has been opposing the carshed at the ecologically sensitive Aarey.
The Thackeray scion said that the state government must also look at environmental sustainability before thinking of launching any infrastructure projects.
“I use the Metro. Right now, we have east-west connectivity. In future, we will have south to north connectivity,” he added.
Mr Thackeray’s stand comes just months ahead of the Assembly election in the state.
Significantly, Metro 3 is considered the pet project of the Bharatiya Janata Party – the senior partner in the coalition government.
