Mumbai Police catch 16-year-old who plotted his own kidnapping'
The minor boy aged 16, was reported missing on Friday afternoon, following which his uncle registered a complaint at Saki Naka police station.
Mumbai: The Crime Branch Unit 10 has arrested two boys, aged 16 and 19, for faking the kidnapping of a 16-year-old in Saki Naka. The boy’s family registered a missing person’s complaint and the police started a probe along with the Crime Branch officials, and found out that the boy had faked his own kidnapping with the help of a friend to provide the extorted money for helping a girl he liked in Palghar. The police have detained the two boys, and are investigating the case.
The minor boy aged 16, was reported missing on Friday afternoon, following which his uncle registered a complaint at Saki Naka police station. Meanwhile, the boy’s father received a call from an unknown number demanding Rs 50 lakh if they wanted to see their son safe, asking them to drop off the money at Palghar’s Manor area. Fearing for their son, his father immediately alerted the police, and tracking the phone call, the police laid a trap in Manor, said a police source.
Sources further added that the trap worked out and the police found the 16-year-old victim, along with a friend of his. Upon primary investigation, it was revealed that the boy faked his own kidnapping, to extort money from his family to help a girl he likes in Manor. To execute the plan, he involved his childhood friend, aged 19, and then both of them planned out the whole thing. The police have detained the two boys and are now questioning the duo. The police officials, who traced the boy in six hours, will quiz the parents of both the boys.
