Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai has assigned three teams to arrest the three accused in a robbery case of October 19 where a 60-year-old woman was robbed of 800 gm gold after she got into a car with her grandson. The woman had been waiting in vain for a bus or a taxi for an hour at Nerul and was offered a lift by the man in the vehicle in exchange of a fee. The duo was thrown out of the vehicle near Kharghar and the police has started examining the CCTV footage and sent teams to different areas for nabbing the accused.

According to the police officials, the victims have been identified as Leelabai More and Akshay More. A police officer attached with the Nerul police station said, “Leelabai and Akshay wanted to go to their native place in Jawali in Satara. They had been waiting for a bus for almost an hour at Nerul, before coming to know about the strike initiated by the ST workers. So, then they started searching for a taxi, but where refused a ride by many private taxis.”

“After almost an hour of waiting, they were offered a ride by the accused, who was asking for passengers going to Satara. The victims reluctantly negotiated the fare and got into the car. Two more people entered the car before the driver started the car, one of whom snatched Leelabai’s purse. This led to a scuffle in the car where the accused removed a knife to threaten Leelabai and Akshay. After almost half an hour, the accused threw out the two victims near Kharghar with their bags,” the police official added.

DCP S. Pathare said, “The accused took away jewellery of almost Rs 2 lakh before throwing the victim’s purse outside the car. The accused might have first gone around the area before asking for passengers who are going to Satara. We have collected the CCTV footage of the area and have started looking for the accused.”
