Mumbai: The Sakinaka police has arrested two persons in connection with the murder of a Congress worker over an abusive post on a social networking website. The duo stabbed Congress worker Manoj Dubey along with their accomplices near Asalfa metro station.

The arrested duo, identified as Umesh Singh Thakur and Jitendra Mishra, stabbed Mr Dubey to death Sunday night.

The police said that the murder was due to the ongoing rivalry between them over petty reasons, one of them being the post on a social networking website stating that the BJP will not form the government in 2019, which attracted derogatory comments.

“The post is not the sole motive and the skirmishes between them had further escalated. We are looking out for other accomplices and conspirators,” said Navinchandra Reddy, deputy commissioner of police, zone 10.

Sakinaka police arrested the duo Monday night from suburban Mumbai, and both have been remanded to police custody for further investigation, officials said. The weapons used included a sword and choppers, said officials.

Mr Dubey was attacked near Asalfa metro station at around 1.30am by Suraj Singh Thakur and others.

He was left outside a temple in a critical condition. Locals informed the police and rushed him to Rajawadi Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

A delegation of local Congress leaders on Tuesday met senior police officers and sought stringent action against the accused persons.

A case of murder and acts of common intention as per the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Arms Act has been registered against all the accused.
