Two who broke into 4 jewellery shops arrested

The police successfully laid a trap and nabbed the accused, recovering gold and silver worth Rs 22.50 lakh.

Mumbai: The Bhiwandi crime branch has arrested two persons for allegedly breaking into three to four jewellery shops in Maharashtra. The police successfully laid a trap and nabbed the accused, recovering gold and silver worth Rs 22.50 lakh.

According to a Bhiwandi police officer, they had received a tip-off about three accused being near Tadali Jakat naka pipe line in the Bhiwandi area.

The accused had recently looted a Jalgaon-based jeweller by drilling a hole into his shop. ACP M. Hatote said, “After laying the trap, we found the accused standing at the said spot with one of them carrying a white coloured gunny bag. After two of our officers tried to intercept him, he escaped. We arrested two of the accused however.”

 On checking, officers recovered gold jewellery worth Rs 2,256,560 from the accused. These men have more than 12 housebreaking cases against them in addition to robbing jewellers’ shops.
