Mumbai: The Shivaji Park Police in the city have registered a case of sexual harassment against a man for posting an offensive comment referring to a woman's weight on social media.

A 32-year-old woman, who works in a private firm, had approached the police with a complaint in this regard last week.

The woman had commented on a video shared on Facebook, saying that overweight women should not be underestimated.

A Facebook user by the name of Rajavel Karikalan posted a comment on it, saying 'you are inspiring women to be fat'.

It led to a series of comments and replies, said senior inspector Gangadhar Sonawane of Shivaji Park Police station.

Karikalan used the word "ugly-fat woman" in one of his replies and also posted an image of an overweight woman, he said.

On the woman's complaint, police registered a case under section 354 (A) (sexual harassment) against Karikalan.

As per the preliminary probe, he was found to be living outside India, police said.
