Varun Dhawan gets e-challan for road selfie
Actor took photo with a fan amid traffic at Juhu.
Mumbai: The police pulled up actor Varun Dhawan on Thursday after a photograph of him taking a selfie with a fan amid a traffic jam at Juhu Tara Road around 10.30 am appeared in a city-based tabloid.
In the picture, the actor is seen leaning out of the window of his car, while his fan does the same from the auto rickshaw. Mumbai police's Twitter handle posted the above-mentioned picture and informed the actor that an e-challan was on its way to his house. Dhawan apologised to the police on the social networking website, saying that the vehicles were not moving, and he did not want to hurt a fan’s sentiments.
He also said that he would be more careful next time.
The Mumbai police’s Twitter team was witty enough to take the matter to the social networking site and attract the actor's attention.
The police tweeted with the published picture, saying: “Adventures like these, leaning out of the car and clicking selfies, only look good on the silver screen and better behaviour was expected from a responsible Mumbaikar.”
The police added that Dhawan would only be issued an e-challan this time, but the punishment would be harsher next time. Dhawan replied saying that the cars were not moving, but he would keep both party's safety in mind, and would not encourage this.
Amitesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) said, "The law is equal for everyone and anyone breaking the law will be punished. However, the e-challan was sent to the actor and the action was taken." He added, "Such behaviour will not be tolerated."
On Tuesday, Padmavati actor Ranveer Singh too had climbed on the roof of his car to greet his fans in the middle of the road in Juhu. Singh was wearing a rather eye-catching outfit consisting of a fluorescent green jumpsuit, similar to a traffic cop's rain gear.
