Mumbai: The Bombay high court has reprimanded the police for being callous and casual in the case of the custodial death of an accused in the premises of 

Mankhurd police station in 2015. According to the petitioner, who is the widow of the deceased, the police registered a case of suicide and though she wrote to various authorities within a week of her husband’s death, demanding an inquiry, nothing fruitful came of it.

After hearing the petition, the court directed the commissioner of police to initiate an inquiry into the incident, adding that the same be conducted by an IG level officer in a neutral and unbiased manner, and a reply be submitted within four weeks.
