Auto driver flashes at teen, case registered
The officials are also trying to track down the driver based on the description given by the girl.
Mumbai: The Powai police filed a case of molestation after a rickshaw driver masturbated at a teenage in Hiranandani late on Saturday. The girl was sitting on the steps of an ATM kiosk when a nearby rickshaw driver began masturbating while continuously staring at her. She lodged a police complaint via Twitter but the driver managed to escape.
The incident took place at around 11.54 pm, when the 19-year-old management student was jogging towards the Powai Lake. The officials said that the woman in her complaint stated that she took a u-turn and started to run inside the housing complex, but she stopped after spotting a suspicious group of men.
The girl chose to sit on the stairs of an ATM kiosk when she spotted a stationed rickshaw on the other side of the road. She saw a man with a beard who was in the attire of a rickshaw driver. The 19-year-old told the police that when she observed him further, she saw him masturbating
“The girl sent out a tweet tagging the police, soon after which a team of Powai police rushed to the spot. The driver had left from there by then. The girl could not take down the number of the rickshaw,” said an officer of the Powai police station.
The officials are now checking the CCTV camera footage of the spot and the neighbourhood to identify all the rickshaws that were there at the spot at that time.
The officials are also trying to track down the driver based on the description given by the girl. The police have formed several teams to scan the rickshaws that run in and around Powai.
A case of molestation has been registered by the police as per the provisions of the Indian Penal Code against the unidentified driver and further probe is underway, officials said.
In September 2018, a man allegedly flashed at a woman commuter when she took a Panvel bound local train from Chhat-rapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT).
The accused, Jitesh Uttekar, boarded the adjacent compartment of the victim and as the train began to move he flashed at her. The woman raised an alarm however the Uttekar fled at Masjid Bunder station. However, later he was arrested.
