Alert RPF officer saves woman from falling on rly tracks

A woman's saree got entangled with train door as she was alighting.

The air-conditioned local train has encountered a number of problems ever since it arrived in April 2015.

Mumbai: An alert Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable saved a woman from falling on to the tracks after she lost her balance while alighting from a Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT)-bound local train at Kanjurmarg, as her saree got entangled with the train’s door on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident took place at 3pm at Kanjurmarg’s platform number 2 where the RPF constable was posted. On hearing the woman’s screams, the constable rushed to save her. He managed to grasp her hand even as she was being dragged along by the train due to her entangled saree. But thanks to his timely action, the woman survived. Acoording to an RPF official from Ghatkopar station, the woman has been identified as Poonam (22). Meanwhile, the RPF personnel, Rajkamal, will be felicitated for his brave deed.        

The incident was captured on CCTV. In the video, Poonam is seen being pulled under the train as it is about to leave the platform. Those who witnessed the incident began screaming, till the  RPF constable saved her.
