Mumbai: The University of Mumbai on Thursday filed an affidavit and assured the Bombay high court that it was “making all endeavours” to ensure that the results for its undergraduate courses are declared before August 31. Though the court wanted the counsel appearing for the varsity to give the court a confirmed date when the results would be declared, it allowed the varsity to make efforts to complete the process and deferred the hearing for a week.

Rui Rodrigues, appearing on behalf of the varsity, told the division bench of Justice Anoop Mohta and Justice Bharati Dangre that all the teachers were working round the clock to complete the assessment of the answer papers and that the results for all regular Bachelor of Arts, Sciences and Commerce courses would be declared by August 31.

The bench told the counsel that the University must do its best to keep its word on the new deadline. The judges also said that after August 31, “you will be liable not only to declare the results but also to tell the court what went wrong.” It also told him to spell out the steps to ensure no such delay is repeated in the future. According to Advocate Rodrigues, while the results for the final semester of all three-year and five-year LLB courses  would be declared by August 31, the results for the undergraduate distance learning courses would be declared later.

The court was hearing a bunch of petitions filed by students blaming poor implementation of new online system for assessment of exam papers.
