MBMC uses new tech for road repair

Mumbai: After using cement-concrete (CC) to get rid of recurring potholes on roads, the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has now decided to switch to Ultra-Thin White Topping (UTWT), a cost-effective and durable technique for developing roads in the twin-city.
Municipal commissioner Balaji Khatgaonkar said, “Unlike the conventional method of concretising, this technology will save 25 per cent of the cost. Even though the concrete used in this technique will reduce thickness as compared to CC, but the roads will be durable.”
Executive PWD engineer Deepak Khambit, said, “The UTWT mix has been approved by the IIT and can be used to fast-track road construction and also meet the prescribed strength standard.”
