Mumbai: The Congress has termed the government’s action against CBI director Alok Verma as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s attempt to cover up the alleged Rafale scam.

Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) had panicked as Mr Verma was about to start an investigation into the Rafale scam. He also claimed that this single move had irreparably damaged the CBI’s credibility. “This is the infamous ‘Gujarat model’ for cloak-and-dagger mugging of the CBI to stifle, subjugate and suppress India’s premier inv-estigative agency. Be it the judiciary or the Cen-tral Vigilance Commissi-on; be it the National Investigation Agency (N-IA) or the Enforcement D-irectorate (ED); or be it t-he Income Tax Departm-ent, CBDT or SFIO. One after the other, the Modi government has attempted to dismantle, destroy and undermine each institution,” he said.
