MSRDC to initiate survey of flyovers for beautification
Around 26 under-flyover spaces in the city will see beautification.
Mumbai: The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) will initiate a survey to detect those city flyovers under which there is free space. However, not all under-flyover spaces will be beautified as they are used for storing metro construction works. Thus, the consultants will detect all such flyovers and slot them for second phase beautification. Around 26 under-flyover spaces in the city will see beautification.
“We have appointed consultants, who will soon start the survey of all flyovers under the proposal, to check if the spaces under these flyovers are vacant or not. There are flyovers in Dahisar and Goregaon, under which, construction material for metro works has been stored. Thus, such flyovers will not be included in the beautification work. The first phase of beautification works will only be done under flyovers where space is identified as vacant,” said a MSRDC official.
The state body plans to beautify under-flyover sp-aces on the lines of the civic body’s beautification of the space under the Matunga flyover. Once a firm gets the contract to beautify the space, it will be entitled to do landscaping and designing of the space. The move has been initiated after the Bomb-ay high court in 2016 ord-ered state officials to eli-minate parking and encr-oachments under flyovers.
“The proposal is in its last stages of preparation; tenders will be floated any time this month. We won’t be spending for the beautification work; instead, advertisement rights on the flyover will be excha-nged,” said an official.
