Pune varsity law exams will not be postponed
The advocate for the petitioner also argued about not being informed in time about the exam dates.
Mumbai: The Bombay high court rejected a plea by law students of Pune University seeking postponement of exams on the grounds that admissions had been completed on December 22, 2017 as a result of which the stipulated 90 academic days were not completed and hence the exams scheduled for February 26, 2018 should be postponed.
They also complained that the announcement of the exam dates was not put up in colleges and hence they were caught unawares. The court, however, upheld the contentions of the university stating that the students had sufficient time to prepare and the exam dates were put up online in January itself and hence there was no hindrance to the students from accessing it.
A division bench of justices B.R. Gavai and B.P. Colabawalla was hearing the public interest litigation filed by Ketan Phirke who wanted the court to direct Pune University to postpone the exam dates as the students have been unable to complete the academic course of the first semester.
The petition also stated that as some of the curriculum had been changed this year, students would find it difficult to prepare for the exams as the books were unavailable.
The advocate for the petitioner also argued about not being informed in time about the exam dates.
The university, however, argued that law colleges had completed the curriculum for the first semester and the exam dates were put up on the university website well in advance and hence there was no need for postponing the exam.
Being satisfied with the submissions of the university, the bench rejected the pleas.
