Duo charged with kidnapping and murder of Nagpada minor

Mumbai: The J.J. Marg police station on Friday filed a charge sheet said to be around 400 pages’ long against two teenagers for kidnapping and murdering a three-and-a-half year old girl. The chargesheet includes call data records and voice analysis records of the two accused. Voice analysis records were submitted as conclusive proof to establish that the accused demanded ransom from the deceased’s father. Sources revealed that the juvenile court was yet to pass an order on whether the accused should be treated as minors.

On December 24, J.J. Marg police arrested two teenagers for kidnapping the minor, Junera Khan, while she was playing outside her house on December 5. The accused aged 16 and 17 had allegedly hatched the plan to make a quick buck, assuming that the victim’s family was rich. One of the accused was the victim’s neighbor in Sharbatwala Building, Donkan Road, Nagpada. Hours after kidnapping the girl, they strangled her and stuffed her body in a rexin bag, hiding behind a water tank of the adjoining building. The duo even helped the victim’s family in their search operations and started demanding ransom on December 19 after realising that the police had not made much headway in the probe. J.J. Marg police traced them from call data records of the number from which they called Junera’s father.

About the charge sheet, a source close to the investigation said, “We have added all records of calls made by the accused to the deceased’s father and calls made by them to each other. The accused also made such calls standing at various places in the locality and we have witness statements and CCTV footage of the same. A team from the forensic state laboratory at Kalina visited the accused and conducted voice tests on both of them. They then compared it to recordings of the ransom demand calls that had been made to the deceased’s father. This report states that both sets of voices are the same. We have included this report too.”
