Pune: Shirish Kulkarni, the son of Dipak Kulkarni of the DSK group, on Monday surrendered to the Pune Police. He has been remanded in police custody till July 2.

Mr Shirish was the executive director of DSKDL firm that allegedly duped thousands of investors to the tune of Rs 2,043 crore. Mr Dipak Kulkarni and his wife Mrs Hemanti Kulkarni, both founders and directors of the company, have already been arrested. Police are set to file a charge sheet of over 37,000 pages.

Earlier, Mr Shirish Kulkarni’s anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the Bombay high court.

Nilesh More, assistant commissioner of police, of the economic offences wing of Pune Police, said, “Rs 154 crore deposited by investors was transferred into the account of Mr Shirish. We wanted to investigate the trail. That is why we wanted to question him. Earlier, he applied for anticipatory bail that we opposed. The high court also rejected it.”

On Monday, V N Sardesai, district court judge, Pune, heard the bail application filed by Ravindra Marathe, chairman and CEO of Bank of Maharashtra, who has been arrested for availing loan to DSK without following norms. Harshad Nimbalkar, lawyer for Marathe, said his arrest is illegal as Marathe granted the loan of Rs 10 crore for which DSK mortgaged his property worth Rs10 crore. He argued that the bank’s committee is behind the transfer.
