TV producer gets 7 yrs for raping actress

Mumbai: A special women’s court on Wednesday awarded Mukesh Mishra, the executive producer of television serial Vira a seven year sentence for raping one of the actresses working in that serial in 2012.

Public prosecutor Ashwini Rayakar said that the judge held that the prosecution had proved the case against the accused beyond reasonable doubt, and hence convicted him for rape and criminal intimidation and sentenced him to imprisonment for seven years.

The prosecution’s case was that the victim was working in a TV serial called Veera in 2012 and the accused Mukesh Mishra, who was the executive producer of the serial, was privy to details about the shooting schedules of all the artistes.

The victim stated that on December 2, 2012, shooting for the serial was going on in a studio at Vihar Lake. Mishra called her in the morning at 6.30am and asked her to reach Jogeshwari station by 7.30am.

When she reached at 7.45am, Mishra was present with a black Pulsar bike and  insisted she ride with him to the studio. When they reached the studio, he raped her in one of the makeup rooms.
