Mumbai: The contract labourers of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEB) have decided to go on a statewide strike on August 27 and 28.

According to reports, the Union Kantrati Outsourcing Kamgar Sanghatana Sanyukt Kruti Samiti has called for the strike against the direct appointment in the MSEDCL for 7,000 posts.

There are three companies under Maharashtra State Electricity Board’s (MSEB) — Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited (MAHAGENCO) and Maharashtra State Electricity Transm-ission Company (Mahatransco).

Currently the decision to outsource labourers has been taken by the MSEDCL.

However, the contract labourers of the other two companies will also be joining the strike as they anticipate that their companies will also follow in the footsteps of the MSEDCL.

There are around 40 thousands contractual labourers working in the three companies.

All of them have confirmed their participation, said sources.

The strike would affect common people, as the electricity supply-related issues would not be taken care of during strike.

The union has also threatened to go on an indefinite hunger strike from August 29 at the Maharashtra State Electricity Board’s headquarter  in Mumbai’s Bandra  if the authority fails to take any concrete decision over their demand.
