BMC issues tenders for dry waste management

Mumbai: For the disposal of dry waste generated in the city by the processing/recycling methods, the Brihanmumbai Munici-pal Corporation has issued global tenders inviting multinational agencies to participate in the process. The civic body will provide plot to the chosen agencies to set up the plant for processing dry waste.

According to civic officials, about 800-1,000 metric tonnes of dry waste is being generated in Mumbai every day. By the appointment of private agency, processing/recycling of waste generated is expected to be 100 metric tonnes per day, which can be extendable up to 250 metric tonnes per day.

“For the disposal of dry waste by processing/recycling, the Brihanmumbai Munic-ipal Corporation has invited global ‘Expression of Interest’. Private agency will be appointed for this work on the basis of criteria like various technologies related to dry waste disposal, processing capacity, experience in the field and system etc. The last date for filing Expression of Interest is November 20,” said Kiran Dighavkar, assistant municipal commissioner (solid waste management).

Plots of appropriate size will be made available by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to setup a plant for processing dry waste at places like Suraksha Garden-Colaba, Deonar, Malvani etc. The collection, transportation of dry waste up to processing centre and development of required system will have to be arranged by the private agency itself. In addition to this, after transportation of dry waste from the housing societies/commercial organisations to the processing centre, further segregation of plastic, paper, metal etc and recycling/processing of dry waste will be the responsibility of private entity.

To collect dry waste in a planned manner; website, toll free number (helpline number), grievance redressal system etc. are also to be arranged by the selected private agency to effectively redress citizen’s queries and grievances regarding the dry waste collection, said a civic official.

On November 3, a meeting has been organised by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation in which queries regarding submission of proposal shall be addressed. After November, the detailed proposals will be presented before the appointed ‘Evaluation Committee’ and further decisions will be taken, added the official.
