Bull falls into manhole, rescued after an hour
Locals fear that during the night, anyone can fall into the open nullah as the lane is also narrow.
Mumbai: A bull fell into an open manhole near D.G. Educational Campus College behind Hyper City mall in Thane on Monday and had to be extricated by fire brigade officials after a 90-minute effort.
The caretaker of the bull who was out for a stroll with other three bulls, said that the bull fell into the manhole at around 3 pm. The rescue operation was concluded by 4:30 pm.
“The lane is very narrow and the manhole is too big. It seems that it was not covered because of which the bull fell inside. There was no injury to the bull,” said Santosh Kadam, Chief Disaster Officer, Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC).
As there was no space left for the rescue men to enter the manhole, the bull was lifted from the JCB. There were around 12 men from both the Fire Brigade Department and Disaster Management (TMC) at the spot.
“One emergency tender, one fire truck and one JCB were used in the operation. The Bull is now safe,” added Santosh Kadam.
Residents around the area asserted that the manhole is either open or some times covered with fragile sheets.
