Constable knocked down' by train, dies

Spot panchnama was conducted by the officials. Shende's body was shifted to the Rajawadi hospital for postmortem.

Mumbai: A woman constable attached to Local Arms-1 unit of Mumbai police died after she was allegedly knocked down by an outstation train near Kurla on Monday. The police said that she died in an accident, but the probe is underway to ascertain if she committed suicide.

Meanwhile, the Kurla Government Railway Police (GRP) said the deceased has been identified as Pratiksha Vishal Shende, a native of Vijaywadi, Yashavantnagar in Solapur. The body of deceased was found near a pole on the railway track between Sion and Kurla on Monday at 1.20 pm.

“She had suffered injuries after a train rammed into her. The woman constable was apparently hit by Hyderabad Express. We are investigating the incident to ascertain if it was purely an accident,” said an officer from Kurla GRP.

A spot panchnama was conducted by the officials. Shende’s body was shifted to the Rajawadi hospital for postmortem. The Kurla GRP has registered an accidental death report. The family has been informed about the incident, and the body will be handed over to them.
