MUMBAI: Two weeks after comedian and TV show host Kapil Sharma registered a complaint of alleged extortion and defamation against journalist Vicky Lalwani and his former managers — Preeti and Neeti Simoes — with the Oshiwara police, the case has seen no headway, said police sources.

According to sources, the charges levelled by Sharma did not match with the statements given by his former and current employees. The police said it had no evidence corroborating the allegations, therefore no arrests have been made so far.

Police sources said that when they recorded the statements of the people connected to Sharma’s employees, they said that the former managers of the comedian, who were named in the complaint, shared a cordial relationship. Subhash Khan-vilkar, senior police inspector of Oshiwara police station said, “Sh-arma’s allegations have not been verified in the statements recorded, and hence there is no progress in the case.”

Sharma had filed a police complaint against his ex-managers and Lalwani on April 6 for allegedly trying to extort Rs 25 lakh from him. Sharma had alleged that Lalwani started malicious propaganda to defame him in the digital media after he refused to pay him the amount.
