Mumbai: A vacation bench of the Bombay high court refused anticipatory bail to a groom who tortured his bride to such an extent that she committed suicide. The court, while refusing the anticipatory bail application (ABA) of the accused, Milind Kamble, held that there was prima facie evidence against him.

According to the prosecution, the marriage between Kamble and the victim was fixed and accordingly, the engagement ceremony took place on March 11, 2018.

Kamble gifted a mobile phone to his wife and used to talk with her on the same. On March 24, the victim returned home and told her father that when Kamble asked her whether she had had an affair with any other boy, she replied in the affirmative in good faith.

However, Kamble told her that he had recorded their conversation and would circulate it on WhatsApp and also inform her parents about it.

Kamble threatened to marry some other girl within seven days. He asked the victim to return all his gifts else he would circulate their conversation on WhatsApp and spoil her name in the community.

On March 25, the victim committed suicide by hanging herself in the community centre of Khalapur, district Raigad. Thereafter, a FIR was registered.

Accused’s lawyer argued that the accused came to know about her previous affairs and cancelled the wedding and asked her to return all the gifts. Accused never pressurized her to commit suicide. He further argued that accused is ready to co-operate in the investigation and ABA should be granted to him.

The court, after perusal of the FIR and hearing both sides held that there was sufficient evidence against Kamble to reject his ABA.
