Mumbai: The Mumbai police has started a feedback exercise by reaching out to people who have previously called or tweeted to them by mentioning their Twitter handle in time of distress. Of the 1,028 feedbacks received on approaching people through call or tweet in the last ten days, 564 were positive where people applauded the response they had received. However, with 55 per cent response, there is still a way to go for the police to perfect their efforts.

Using this system, the police officials are trying to keep a track of their interaction with citizens. The officials select such people through a random selection process. The move was initiated after the heavy rains on August 29.

A senior official, on the condition of anonymity said that during the monsoon crisis, many people had taken to Twitter seeking help and many were indeed helped instantly. The next day, their Twitter handle had received many tweets of appreciation, which made them realise the scope and importance of the process.

Akbar Pathan, deputy commissioner of police (cyber crime) told this paper, “The Twitter handle of Mumbai police has evolved positively over time, and the feedback from the citizens has been overwhelming.”

A police officer from the Twitter team also added that the steps to improvise a complainant’s experience with the force’s service will be taken, and hopefully the ratio of positive responses will increase over time.
