Farmers to hold banned notes' death anniversary'

Mumbai: Notebandi Virodhi Manch and farmers’ leaders are set to organise the ‘death anniversary’ of the demonetisation, brought into effect by the Centre last year on November 8, at Azad Maidan, Nashik, Pune, Banglore and Kolkata.

The group has appealed to the people to join them at Azad Maidan in Mumbai where Raju Shetty, Raghunath Patil and Bachhu Kadu will participate in the event. They have alleged that the demonetisation has not served any purpose and the citizens have only gone through harassment.

Swabhiman Shetkari Sanghatana Member of Parliament (MP) Raju Shetti will lead the protest at Azad Maidan. “As per the Hindu culture, death anniversary or Shraddha is observed after one year of death. November 8 would be death anniversary of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, which we will observe. It was the government’s biggest failure and they have achieved nothing. But the people lost money and in fact, 400 people have died standing in bank queues. This has to be condemned,” Mr Shetti said.

He appealed to the people to join him in the protest through social media platforms. A similar programme will be conducted in other cities and states as well, Mr Shetti informed.
