Metro-5 will connect Kalyan growth centre
The project of developing Nilje with employment opportunities will get a boost with the proposed metro line, says the MMRDA authority.
Mumbai: Metro-5 (Thane-Bhiwandi) corridor will have a route through Nilje growth centre at Kalyan, an MMRDA project to make the area a commercial complex like the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai. The project of developing Nilje with employment opportunities will get a boost with the proposed metro line, says the MMRDA authority.
“The alignment of the Metro corridor has been planned and it will pass through the proposed growth centre at Kalyan,” said Pravin Darade, additional metropolitan commissioner, MMRDA. According to the authorities, along with Metro-5 corridor, the Virar-Alibaug Multi-Modal corridor will also connect the growth centre in future. The Metro-5 corridor received a cabinet nod two days ago; tenders for the same will be floated in a month, confirmed authorities. “We are waiting for a notification from the government and the GR is yet to be received. It will come in the next 10 to 15 days, post which we will invite tenders,” added Darade.
The growth centre or smart city idea was chalked out in 2009 and the same had received government clearance in 2014. The authority plans to develop the area with employment opportunities, sports and residential complex. “An Ahmedabad based consultant have been appointed to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR), formalities related to land will be completed by mid-2018,” .
