Shiv sainiks take to Scotch to slam MBMC beer bar
In return, the civic administration generously handed over possession of the first floor above the operative MSRTC control room.
Mumbai: Shiv Sena’s female corporators on Thursday resorted to a novel mode of protest against Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation’s (MBMC’s) recent move, allowing relocation of a beer bar above what is the control room of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) in Bhayandar (west).
The female brigade barged into the office of PWD executive engineer, Deepak Khambit, only to gift him bottles of whisky and demand that officials behind the move be suspended immediately.
The all-women Sena group was led by corporators Neelam Dhawan, Deepti Bhatt, Tara Gharat, Archana Kadam, Bhavna Bhoir, Helen Georgy and Snehal Kansaria.
As part of its road widening project, to clear clogged roads leading to the newly-inaugurated subway, the MBMC had demolished hotel Guru, a restaurant and bar next to the railway station.
In return, the civic administration generously handed over possession of the first floor above the operative MSRTC control room.
This kind of exception in terms of rehabilitation, rarely seen in similar such cases, has not only left locals, political activists and bus commuters in a tizzy, but has also invited the local MSRTC administration’s wrath.
A delegation of MSRTC officials met their MBMC counterparts to express their dissent. However, in a dramatic U-turn, the civic administration now claims that it has only allowed relocation of an eatery and not the bar on its property.
