MBMC to take part in census of livestock
The animal census is held once in five years across the nation.
Mumbai: The Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has geared up to participate in the country’s 20th livestock census under the aegis of the Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries (DAHDF). How-ever, unlike the usual pen and paper mechanism, this time, field data will be digitally collected and documented using computer tablets. The animal census is held once in five years across the nation.
The civic administration has deployed 60 contractual computer operators as enumerators who will set out with tablets to take a count of various species of pet and stray animals including cattle, fowl, cats, dogs, buffalo and sheep across 95 wards in the twin-city.
Thirteen sanitary inspectors will supervise the three-month-long operation. The DAHDF has developed a mobile application (app) to help red-uce the time gap in data collection and processing and report generation.
The enumerators and supervisors will get a unique login id and password for online and offline documentation and real-time monitoring of data at the field level.
