Mumbai: The Mumbai Metropo-litan Region Devel-opment Authority (MMRDA) has tweaked the design of stations for the upcoming Metro-7 project (Andheri east to Dahisar east) and Metro 2A project (Dahisar to D.N. Nagar). The authority has noticed certain design flaws in the Metro line 1 project (Versova- Ghatkopar) stations that is operational since 2014. The MMRDA has realised that stations on the Metro 1 route are wider and block natural sunlight. MMRDA officials said the new two lines would have slimmer stations that won’t obstruct the sky view. The authority is looking forward to making the stations more accessible and passenger-friendly.

“We have charted out plans for design of two metro lines and have prepared a station accessibility plan. The plan will help us to know from where people access the station. Accordingly skywalks will be constructed for the passengers,” said an MMRDA official.

Beautification of stations will be done using all urban design elements and landscaping,” the official said. The authorities are doing a detailed study on all the new changes, which are proposed for the upcoming metro lines. In addition to this, there are plans to widen the footpaths outside stations.
