Renowned surgeon passes away while training for marathon
Dr Rakesh Sinha was rushed to the nearby Holy Family Hospital by passers-by only to be pronounced dead on arrival by the hospital's doctors.
Mumbai: World renowned endoscopic surgeon, Dr Rakesh Sinha, died in Bandra at around 9.30 am on Monday after collapsing on a street near Joggers’ Park while practising for the upcoming Mumbai Marathon. He was rushed to the nearby Holy Family Hospital by passers-by only to be pronounced dead on arrival by the hospital’s doctors.
The deceased is survived by his wife, Dr Manju Sinha, and a son and a daughter who are also doctors. Dr Sinha had participated in four marathons and was a well-known writer too. Dr Sinha who started his career in 1988, trained as many as 600 endoscopic surgeons.
Police officers of Bandra police station said that they had registered an accidental death report in the case. “The cause of death will be found only after we will get the post mortem report,” said a police officer.
Dr Arshad Ghulam Mohammed, who first posted news of Dr Sinha’s demise on social media said that Dr Sinha was jogging in Joggers Park, Bandra, when he suddenly collapsed, following which he was rushed to the hospital.
“He was a well known author and had recently launched his new book. He was a multi-talented person, a motivational speaker, a good human being, and a wonderful runner,” said Dr Arshad.
According to Dr Arshad, Mr Sinha was a fitness freak and had run the full marathon four times.This time too, he was planning to participate in the Mumbai marathon and had been practising for the same.
The Facebook page of Dr Sinha says he is a Guinness World Record Holder with two records - one for having removed laparascopically the largest fibroid weighing 3.4 kg and the second for having taken out laparascopically the heaviest uterus weighing 4.1 kg.
