Number of drunk driving cases comes down this year

Mumbai: The number of drunken-driving cases detected by the police during January to December 24 this year came down by over 10 per cent in comparison to the corresponding figure of last year. Last year, during the same period, 16,416 cases had been detected while this year it stood at 14,921.

In the beginning of 2017, the police deployed their men at various party spots like Bandra, Lower Parel and Andheri, where the cops caught youngsters for flouting rules like driving under the influence of alcohol, or driving/riding without a seatbelt/helmet.

Toral Kakkad, a city resident who is a regular party-goer, said, “Thanks to the constant drives taken up by the Mumbai police,there are less accidents due to the inebriation. Being a party animal myself, I always make sure that neither me nor my friends take the wheel if drunk.”
